Cardiovascular Limitation
The cardiovascular system is made up of the heart, arteries, capillaries and veins and is responsible for circulating blood throughout the body. The blood carries gases like oxygen and nutrients like carbohydrates, fats and proteins to the organs, tissues and cells in the body. The blood also picks up waste products such as lactic acid and carbon dioxide from the cells and carries them to where they can either be expelled or metabolized.
Your heart can respond to exercise stress by varying stroke volume (the amount of blood pumped per beat) or heart rate (the number of beats per minute) – or both.
We monitor your cardiovascular system during testing in order to determine how your cardiovascular system responds to exercise stress (baseline). We can determine if your cardiovascular system is efficient and effective. If we determine that your cardiovascular system is a limitation to your training and performance, we will design a training program focused on improving your cardiovascular efficiency specific to your sport.
